For the past three years we have assisted teachers in fulfilling the Native Studies part of the Ontario Curriculum.
In the spring of 2009, we presented our program to 20 schools with York Catholic District School Board. During this school year (Fall/Winter 2009-2010), we are presenting our program to 30 schools with York Catholic District School Board. Also, we are presenting our program to classes and conducting teacher workshops with Durham District School Board.
Our presentation addresses the native studies curriculum for students in grades 3 and 6.
We have presented our program to high school students (grades 9 -12) in History, Art, Drama, and Visual Arts classes. At Mount Alverno, we have an on -going opportunity to talk to student mentors about the native culture, stereotyping, art, etc.
The length of our presentation is 2 hours and accommodates 30 students.
Included in the presentation, each child will create his own Spirit Totem animal drawing and receive a frame. The student can keep their framed picture.
We would be honoured to come to your school and speak to your students.
There are 2 of us - Todd Jamieson & myself. (Alfie J. Fishgap)
I am a carver from the West Coast (Salish) and my art represents that area.
Todd's art is Woodland and originates from the Oneida reserve near London Ont.
Together, we represent both coastal & woodland Native culture, art, story, & history.
We are very flexible and will work with you to cover any topics you would like.
Thank you. We look forward to working with you and the students.
